Dr. Arzu Dalmış completed her group analysis, theoretical training, and supervision at the Halime Odağ Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy Foundation between 2002–2008, earning the title of “Dynamically Oriented Psychotherapist.”
The founder of classical psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud, initially conceptualized the human psyche topographically as consisting of three parts: the conscious, the unconscious, and the preconscious. He later described it structurally as the id, ego, and superego, thereby paving the way for many therapists and therapeutic approaches that followed. Through these conceptualizations, the components that shape human behavior—such as mental structure, conscious and unconscious processes, and defense mechanisms—began to be understood.
In dynamically oriented psychotherapy, an individual’s problems are not viewed as isolated to a single period of life; instead, they are examined in relation to the individual’s past and the influence of past experiences on the present. Childhood experiences, factors affecting personality development, relationships with family members, defense mechanisms, and the connection between past and present experiences are explored. During therapy sessions, the therapist guides the client within this framework, helping them recognize their problems and reach solutions. Therefore, the client plays an active role throughout the therapy process. The true success of therapy is closely related to the client’s mental engagement and effort.
